How to choose the best intimate hygiene product

by Cumlaude Lab

Before we begin, let’s address the question we all have: why choose the best specific intimate hygiene product? The answer is simple. The sweat, vaginal, menstrual and urethral secretions that can build up in the vaginal area are made up of water and lipids. To remove these residues, we must use a specific hygiene product that is SYNDET or soap-free – in other words, mild anionic detergents that will trap the dirt and isolate it, so that it can then be washed away with water without damaging the protective lipid barrier of the skin.

People who use a non-specific hygiene product are unaware that they are using a soap containing alkaline substances that alter the skin’s natural pH – which is more alkaline – thereby stripping away the protective lipid barrier.

Tips for finding the best intimate hygiene product

There is an intimate hygiene product to suit every woman, but we often find it difficult to know which one best meets our needs. Let us tell you about our intimate hygiene products and give you some advice to help you make the right choice.

At Cumlaude Lab, we offer daily intimate care products and specialised intimate care products. The daily products, as the name suggests, are for everyday use, and the choice between one product and another will depend on the stage of life you are at:

  • Pediatrics Intimate Hygiene for use from infancy (1 year) until the onset of menstruation, as the vaginal environment becomes more acidic once periods begin. It has a soothing, softening and moisturising formula thanks to active ingredients such as mallow, lime blossom, calendula and peony extracts, which help to prevent itching, burning or redness of the vulva, as well as cleansing the area.
  • Daily Intimate Hygiene for the fertile years and pregnancy. This is a skin-cleansing, moisturising and protective product with an acidic pH. Its formula combines lactic acid and hydrolysed hyaluronic acid. It is also ideal for cleaning menstrual cups and medical-grade silicone devices such as Kegel balls and vibrators.
  • Deligyn Intimate Hygiene during the climacteric and the menopause. It is a gentle and soothing intimate hygiene product with a neutral pH, whose formula combines a complex of natural extracts such as aloe vera, marshmallow and arnica montana. It will help reduce irritation and control the odour of urine leakage. It is also useful if you have hypersensitivity of the mucous membranes or suffer from recurrent thrush.

Other intimate hygiene products we recommend

We offer specific hygiene products to tackle particular discomforts or infections. If you suffer from vulval dryness, we recommend Lubripiù Intimate Hygiene, as it is a highly emollient product with an oil-in-milk texture. Its formula contains hyaluronic acid and lactic acid, so it will cleanse the intimate area without drying it out.

If you frequently experience infections or discomfort in the intimate area, we recommend CLX Intimate Hygiene or CLX Intimate Hygiene Mousse. Their balancing, refreshing and protective formula, based on an active plant complex and soothing extracts such as calendula, horsetail and cornflower, provides a cleansing and protective effect, suitable for cases of vaginosis, vaginitis, cystitis, aftercare following an episiotomy, after sexual intercourse and sporting activities, and during menstruation.

Finally, if you tend to suffer from recurrent issues, try the Prebiotic Intimate Hygiene Mousse. It is a gentle hygiene product, in mousse form, enriched with prebiotics, lactic acid and provitamin B5, which will help you to rebalance your microbial flora.
