Elizabeth Clapés, a psychologist specialising in clinical sexology and couples therapy, visited Planeta V to discuss intimate hygiene – a huge topic that is rarely talked about, and when it is, the information given is often incorrect.

@esmipsicologaThere is a great deal of controversy over whether or not one should use specific intimate hygiene products. The reality is that few of us wash our vulva with water alone. The vast majority of us end up using body wash to clean our intimate area, but this is a bad habit.
The vulva should be washed daily to maintain good intimate hygiene and prevent infections. And to do this, we should use a specific intimate hygiene product that respects this sensitive and delicate skin. That’s right! Just the vulva – that is, the external part of the female genitals, which includes the labia majora, labia minora, clitoris and vaginal opening. The vagina, the internal part, should not be washed. It has its own self-cleaning system.
Psychologist and sexologist Elizabeth Clapés, better known on Instagram as @esmipsicologa, explains in this Planeta V video why it is important to use a specific intimate hygiene product, especially after sexual intercourse.
